Thumb-up    from wolli/Ian (56,879) This user is a Premium Member Send mail to this user on March 9, 2005 1:24:33 AM CST (2) Early critique

Good idea Bob but for me it doesn't quite come off I'm afraid. However trying to put my finger on the reasons is proving a challenge. The foreground is a problem IMO with a large mostly dark area interspersed with blowouts which don't appeal to my eye. Same with the sky being washed out or blown out (depending on where one looks). And the jumble of sprinklers are unexpectedly disappointing but they do exhibit a nice upward trend. I wonder whether you might have shot from lower & perhaps a little more to the left (perhaps - only in an attempt to avoid the blown out sky), exposed a stop less to give the sky some strength. Regards, Ian.

Very good critique, so instead of paraphasing what Ian said I just add the comment that much of the color/saturation/sharpness weakness may be due to the scan and too little postprocessing.

Thanks Oliver. I hadn't even considered a scan might have been the culprit. Regards, Ian.

Ian, thanks for taking a look at my picture. I had entered a longer picture of this one but decided to crop to the right. In the other picture, I thought these sprinkers looked sort of science fictionish and called it "The Martians are coming". In this one I worked on the hue/saturation to make sure the green grass stood out more. If I get back this way again, I am sure the farmers still use these sprinklers and will try another attack, for instance, with a polarizing filter.

Don't give up Bob; there is potential in the subject. Regards, Ian.
