Simply stunning. The composition is perfect, the reflection in the water is amazing, and the waves behind seem to be caught at the perfect moment. While I see that some earlier critiques thought having his sister in the picture was a distraction, I actually like it; she breaks up the background just enough, and seems to mirror her brother in the way she is gazing towards the waves. This is one for the books; great job.

Man you are great. This is a instant classic. I like the angle it gives the kid a sense of "great than life". I like the reflection of the water it give the picture great ballance. I love the sepia tone, it gives it this vintage look. I minor thing: I find the girl a little distracting.

I like a lot this thing, and I like, above all, the fine taste of photos of some (many) years ago, that you'll be able to give to this image, using this delicate "sepia" tone, not sad at all in this case (as often happens), and succesfully combined with lightned reflections on the shoreline. This is surely a beautyful thing.

Robert, very good job! Composition and DOF are perfect. The little girl in the foreground is in the right position. Your composition is a perfect arch between head-body+arm-right leg-girl joint to the vertical boy+reflection. I appreciate very much your POW from the bottom that enphasize the reflection on the wet sand. Perfect the little colorisation in sepia and grain. Bravo! The only negative point is that I would like to see something in Photographer's Comment about this shot. Thanks for sharing. Best regards, Mario

Really a remarkable photograph. Redolent with powerful imagery (boy looking in, girl looking out)(heads just above water)(lost at sea). Stunning. The composition is even better. You have done an amazing job here. Congratulations.

Kc this isn't directed totaly to you, but the viewers in general. This is a day at the beach series of my children. The little girl Anna is the sister of David. I suppose it would make more sense to post them all together, but it is hard to do here. If you look at my portfoio you will see some of the others of that series. Standing alone some pictures will get the comments listed below. Thank you all for your wonderful words and critiques. Thank you KC for your insite.

Very nice photo. I like it very much, but it would be more interesting to me without the girl in the back? What do you think?

Wonderful photograph. I agree that the tone here works great.
Regarding the girl on the right, I don't think it is a big distraction. My only objection about her is her positioning relative to the frame, or maybe her head being above the horizon and rest of her body below it. But I think she adds something to the photograph. It is good that she is looking away from the camera.
Regarding the boy's left arm, although its position is awkward, I think it looks natural. It is as if he was just playing there and raised his head for a moment. And that look...
Good idea to keep all of his reflection in the frame.

What a wonderful photo. I may hate myself in the morning, but I'm going to be very picky. There is so much to appreciate, so I won't repeat what others have offered, except that I too am not distracted by the girl in the background. I'm also not bothered by the harsh shadow on his torso from his arm, but I am by the shadow on his neck and right shoulder. (I'd be sorely tempted to soften it.) While I absolutely love the light reflections on his body, his chin and a small area on the side of his face on our right seems just a bit overexposed to me. (Nearly impossible to avoid at the beach, I know.) For some reason I keep coming back to the position of his left hand, but that could totally be my issue - I see nothing "wrong" with it, and in general I love his body position, as well as the directness of his gaze. I had to work really hard to criticize this in any way - it is exceptional work. Brilliant composition and lovely sepia toning - a real pleasure to see!

Another awesome photo, Bob! I love that reflection in the sand. The B&W, and especially the grain, works REALLY well with the "grainy sand" in the image. Keep these great shots coming! Regarding the girl on the right, her existance in the image adds a tremendous depth to the mood of the image. Imaging brother and sister (and presumably, mom and pop) go to the beach together, but once there, each seeks their own solitude. This image captures that quite nicely!

I'd have to disagree with the girl in the background being a distraction. I think it shows great depth and perspective. It emphasises "David's" choice to concentrate on the camera (or viewer) instead of being distracted by the waves and sea. I love the sepia and the framing excellent. There's some noise in the shadow areas, but I'm sure it's the jpeg and not the actual shot. The mirrored image gives the image great design and balance. GREAT JOB! Keep Posting.

Beautiful nostalgic portrait. The B&W conversion and the type of swimsuit on David reminds 50's. The composition and the shooting angle are very well chosen. Great work.

Hello Robert. Nice portrait and excellent capture of his reflection. I like the sepia tones in your image. What I am not sure is the girl at the right. I found her quite distracting. It seems to me that the girl didn't contribute to your image. Maybe a crop will work better (vertical composition). Take care Andres.
