I'm just coming back from french Guyane, where I saw many several birds... but I had never a so beautiful lighting !!! Your composition (with the bird one one side and its sight on the over side) is welldone as weel as the focus and the DOF. Great shot !!!

Very nice indeed Martin. I think herons are a photographers dream in that they sit absolutely still as if to let us take the best shot possible. I very much like the afternoon light here, that warm temperature lights the scene perfectly. Perhaps my only grip is that we're missing the action in that we cannot see what the heron is focusing on. I know this does present a problem in that you cannot come out too wide otherwise we loose the tight shot of the heron but perhaps if you panned right a bit to still get the heron in the frame but also show some of what he's focusing on

One of the best heron shots I've seen here in a while. Congrats! The exposure is spot on (which is not at all trivial with these birds), wonderful focus and eye detail and a beautiful shallow DOF that separates the bird from its background. Great composition as well...

Hello Martin. A fine capture of this Heron stalking prey. Great composition and sharpness. And you've caught a nice pose from this guy. The light is unfortunate creating a difficult exposure, but such is wildlife photography.

Nice job. Regards, Mike
