Sometimes you just _see_ the picture. This was a case of that. On October 30, 2004 the Swedish football (soccer for you Americans) team Malmö FF won the championship again for the first time in 16 years, and this picture was taken on October 31st as I (along with about 25,000) was waiting to receive the team for a celebration of the trophy in the main square in Malmö, Sweden.

I saw this guy reading this special edition of the biggest newspaper in Sweden and thought it would make a good snapshot of a historic moment in time. I realise it is not quite the losing streak of the Red Sox, but to us fans the 16 year wait for another championship has been LONG! :-D

The number 27,343 on the left hand side of the newspaper is the attendance at the last game, the highest of the season.

Tomas, what would make this shot much better in my opinion is darkening the irrelevant sections.
Take the lasoo and start bottom right by his hand. Go carefully around his hand, all the way round the newspaper, around the other hand, and up to his collar. Then go to the border on each side and join it up. Use levels option to brighten this part, as the original is too dark for me. Then invert the selection and use levels to darken it a bit. Saturate is at perhaps -25 and a bit of blur if needed, and you will have a much stronger image, for me.

Thank you for the advice Matt. Will have a go at that in Paint Shop Pro...if I can find the original file on a CD-rom somewhere. Had a hardisk crash a few days ago, so it takes a bit of time to restore stuff.

Hi! I was browsing and arrived to this photo of yours. Today newspapers at Portugal have also this message: F.C Porto is the World Champion (won the Intercontinental Cup for the 2nd time yesterday)!! As football is the national game here (they are all crazy about it, but all) and I am from Porto I felt an instant connection with your image. Concerning the photo - it is a good moment captured and technically very acceptable. The "message" is very clear enhanced furthermore by the individuals in the background (conveniently blurred) reading perhaps the same page (I imagine). Jose Paulo

Good documentary photo, Tomas, and congratulations to your team. I'm a Yankee fan, so I hope it's another 100 years 'til the Red Sox win again. :-) Your image's composition is strong, as if we are looking over the reader's shoulder. Getting the other person with a newspaper in the frame works, as we can assume he/she is reading the same article. Perfect DOF, though I think the frame could be a bit lighter. It's been a long time between images, let's see more from you. :-)

Thank you for the kind words...it warms my heart to hear them from someone I know has a knowledge of photography. How's that for a really groveling response? ;-)

As for new pictures...the problem with being on photoSig is you tend to get VERY critical of your own shots. But you're right, it is time to get some new stuff in here. :-)

Yeah, let's see some more without worrying about how they are to you. I've posted a lot of odd snaps recently, without concern for critiques or points, knowing there's not a masterpiece in the bunch! Take care.

I like this image Tomas. I’m not sure why others haven’t commented on it. I like the framing here, how the edge of the paper splits near frames edge. How the subject offers life while holding the paper yet not being primary to the image. Mostly I like your angle of view. I wish for a bit more sharpness on the paper but the headline is easily readable. It’s a great moment in time and you captured it well. Thanks for sharing. J
