the focus range is too short, but the colors are so harmonised, particularly snails against the background is very nice looking. congratulations for this very beautiful shot.

Ready, set, go !!

I like those two snails, the angle is nice too.

I find the depth of field too short, I don't know if you were in a position to close more though.

Cheers

Ralph

Nice Simple composition that works well in the thumbnail size, but is let down by not-quite enough DOF in the larger version.

The colour and overall tonal balance is pleasant - it conveys a very natural look to the the two contestants. ;) I really like the way the diagonal lines in the background lead the eye into the subject as well.

Was there any more scope for a smaller aperture? If not, I think having just one snail within the region of sharp focus would be prefereable to having sharp detail on different parts of each snail.

Cheers...Pete

Thanks for these constructive comments. That was hand-held, eventhought the ambiant light was bright that was the max aperture I could afford. Your idea of one snail focused and one blurred is interesting; I'll grab too more snails in my garden to experiment on this. That may give more accent on the winner (or looser)! Thanks, Bertrand
