Absolutely fantastic image Sara. There is just so much to look at here. I love the way the lines of the tree in the middle are repeated in the steam. That sun is fantastic. Great composition. You have so many great curves and contrasts going on that just all come together for nicely balanced shot. Just a beautiful job. I wish I had more time to gush (you can just imagine the other nice things I have to say about it for about five minutes).

I just got a 20 x 30 print of this, and it is AWESOME. So cool to see in a big format like that, all the detail and texture, makes this all just feel so much more real. Thanks thanks thanks, Adam.

Haven't been to your portfolio in awhile... wow! My favorite part of the image are the ribons of sun that bring out the snowy banks on the right side of the image. Had you been there 15 minutes later you would have been outa luck!

Sara, what a pleasant surprise to be able to give a meaningful 3TU to a truly original and atmospheric shot, and on the main page, too! This really is a remarkable composition; and your title is good too - the combination of ice, snow, sun, shadow and steam is almost unsettling in the feelings of warmth and cold it inspires. If JMW Turner had seen this, I can imagine he'd've been inspired to paint one of his wonderful evanescent watercolours. Yes, one could perhaps wish the flare wasn't there, but to do so would be pretty mean, overall. Thanks for brightening up the end of a long boring day.

Looking at the thumbnail I thought this was cut and paste work for sure! I couldn't believe it when I saw the photo. What a unique scene! Mystic, like a fairy tail.
I think the position of the small tree on the left is perfect and the 50-50 lay-out works like a charm here. I wouldn't change a thing about the sun. You definitely need it there for the contrast, but the entire thing would have been too much. This is an excellent solution.
Ofcourse you need the luck to run into a scene like this. But when you do, you also need the skills to take full advantage of it. Obviously you have those skills, Sara! Magnificent work!

I think the entire thing would have blown out the left side too, it was soooo bright. I let just a tiny bit in here and the flare was still pretty big! Man I wish I had all the time in the world in this place, it was quite incredible indeed. Thank you.

Really excellent photograph. Good composition. The exposure is dead on. Still nice detail in the snow on the right, I love the small highlights on the snow. The small tree under the sun, and the shadows cast by the tree.
The flare is OK to me, it's almost unavoidable when you dare to shoot almost straight into the sun. I just love it.
I'll even give you 4 thumbs for the feeling it provokes.

Incredible capture. The story adds a lot to the visual believability... this is amazing... looks like a composite... lol. You have done a fabulous job with the exposure and the little artifacts from flare are not detracting from the photo. Every photographer waits for those shots that are so captivating and memorable... you have one here for sure. Excellent work and thanks so much for sharing!

My first thought when I saw this was "no way". But then I read your explanation. Simply incredible.
The blue lens flare is a bit annoying, but I'm just saying it because I am frantically searching for something negative to say. That's the only thing I can come up with, and it's not that important.
What can I say... wow.

This is really amazing. At first I thought this must have been digital. It seems like it must be an incredible place for photography. Very well captured.

Coupled with the title... what a tasty piece of art. I really really like it. Most impressive lookin for iso 800. WOW! I love the split. I was thinking the whole sun would look neater but I think the split as is is good work enough. I love the blue flare. Most impressive and well seen and shot.

Wonderful! The sun rays are looking good, colors are great (especially the sky). You should try to delete the lens reflection. Compliments, three thumbs up!

I love this photo. And i think the title is well thought. A rare photo. You did it and you are a lucky woman... Congratulations. No negative critiques for me... (perhaps the flare in the right center...)

Glad you like it! I didn't do much to this photo and in that vein of thought left the flare alone... Maybe I'll remove it and see if I can do it cleanly. ;)

This is surreal. I thought it was a PS trick at first.

It is an impresive landscape picture, I can feel the cold wind good. Only the reflection I dislike.
I hope you will come to see some of my works like this

I don't really have a critique... I just wanted to say, "Wow!" :) Saw this link in the "title" thread and took a peek. You have the same camera as me... Any chance you could get your camera to teach my camera how to take photos like that? LOL!
