I think it is all said here. But from my point of view i would get in the middle the focus and between the two places on the right and on the left would get the out of focus, and besides. I would get more with the diagonal of the shot, from one square to another. Anyway good one. Regards and thanks for sharing it. Jorge

Despite its many critiques already, this is a shot I can't help but critique... I'm in awe of people who are able to find great shots like this out of the everyday objects lying around the house. It is proof that you don't need to travel to far-flung places to take great shots. The fall-off in focus is wonderful, and i love the soft graduations of tones, the slight shadows between the teeth. this is superb. Thank you for posting. Feel free to check out my shots if you wish.

What too many people lose is their ability to look past the everyday, to find new possibilities in even the most ordinary things around them. You've allowed your imagination the freedom to "see" the extraordinary in the very ordinary. How far removed from this simple child's comb is the proletariat of the future, for example? And yet you've managed to connect the two. I like the way your DOF is contrary to what most people would expect: the most focused area is the farthest from the eye, while the area least in focus is closest to the eye. And yet, expected or not, this is the way our eyes would look at a long line. Seldom do we just focus on the closest, but rather we focus along the line, letting the closest lose their sharpness in doing so. While I like this, I would like it even more if the distant "teeth" of the comb were in sharper focus. As it is, they are not in total focus either, except for their round tips, which weakens the technical aspect of the photograph. I think, too, that this is an idea with which it is worth continuing, trying, for example, a slightly different angle to have the "proletarians" disappear fully into the right corner as perspective diminishes their size completely. While you were restricted by your camera this time, with your wonderful new camera you should be able to fully realize your vision which you have begun here. I would love to see another submission, this time showing the limitless possibilities of your imagination coupled with the great technology of a better camera. Otherwise, for what you were using, this is extremely well done. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Mehmet, you have a good eye to create this kind of image. Good idea and
creative. Due to the DOF problem, the closed comb is blur and a bit
distraction. You can try to solve this problem as per some photographer's
mentioned. Composition is simple and clear. Good photo though and thanks for
sharing.

Mehmet, very good idea. Based on this shot, I think the left side is blur but right side is sharp. Normally, this is not a fault because of DOF problem. Try to take the shot with lowest aperture value to get the biggest DOF, so the perspective can be more interesting and clear too. Anyway, this is a good try. Keep going.

Great idea Mehmet and well presented! Interesting way of
putting focus on right part of photo -- usually one would
expect focus in front, left side, but I think this works
well in this particular photo... I wish you had a tad more
focus at the "end", this would make it perfect for me.
Keep such ideas/photos coming up!
Ciao,

P.S. Let me also tell you that for the "simple" camera which you have you make outstanding photos! (Canon should pay you well ;-)

More mechanical? More electronical I would say (given the fact that you used an A70 and no Leica ;-). Nice shot. The colors are not very vivid (hey there are none;-) but a different background would work perfectly. Let the masses march in front of a blue sky or let them pass by some 'government buildings'. This would add the extra pop the image could still need.

Very creative, carefully composed and technically well executed. My two elements of doubt come from the shadows in the background (I have the hunch that completely white would have made the "proletarians" stand out more) and from your choice of keeping the furthest part of the comb in focus instead of the closest part, which would have looked more natural to me.

I would like to give this picture credit for the imgination behind it and for the good execution of the idea. At first sight, I was not immediately attracted to the thumbnail: it seemed too abstract and too ordinary to me. But at closer inspection, I find that you have seen an ordinary object in a new and creative way, and that would be a good reason to give this picture a good rating. Great work. Regards.

The idea and the presentation are 3TU for sure. The softness and photograph itself is somehow not as bright as the title & the barcodes are. So forgive me for my 2TU evaluation. But many 2TU's will make a fortune rather than a single flattering 3TU. The metaphore is superb.

This is a perfect example of how a good title can compliment an image. It is also a perfect example how oridinary objects can be used to project a larger message that may or may not have anything to do with the object itself. Very good thought process on this Hehmet, nice abstract quality, and well executed too...right down to the barcode at the bottom and the font choice for the image title. Consider this a 2.5, slight markdown for softness issue.

Great abstract Mehmet. I like how my eye is being led by it. I tink andrei has a point saying there is no point to stop on. On the other hand, I see you tried to put focus on point 7-8 seen from the right. My eye gets back there after crossing it. Guess that works. Only further remark I have is that it should have better focussed. AT least the ones you focussed on. Well done!

Very interesting photo. The compostion is great. You created a very strong line for a viewer's eyes to follow. Unfortunately, there is no point to stop on. Despite this the composition still works well.
The picture has only one thing that could be considered to be a problem. I cannot see a single element that is perfectly in focus. All edges are very soft. A better DOF could help here.

Fantastic shot. I thrive for abstracts like that. Making so much out of a comb is like getting food from watering a seed! The greenish hue is soothing and doesn't distract from the subject, the far away depth of field is exactly how I see it. A mass of people only becomes clear when seen from a distance, the ones that are closest tend to lose their definition as a mass (the first trees on the edge of the forest are not really forest, yet..they're just trees). Just one question, though, what is the striped fuzzy background made of?

Very creative idea; for the shot and also for framing.
I think that DOF is very good and does not need any improvement. But where the focus is made is not very good; my thought is that the focus point should be nearer to the foreground.
The image itself is marvelous. Very good work. My congratulations, Mehmet.

Good macro shot. I like very good idea of this shot and good composition with great angle of shot. Nice settings. Maybe other DOF can be better, but is OK. Regards, Mike.

Mehmet,
Excellent idea for an abstract and you made it work very well. I stared at
this one for a while before reading your comments and couldn't figure out
what it was. Good composition and it might be better with more DOF, but the
shallow DOF here adds to the abstractness so in a way it's a plus. Good
creative work on your part.
Regards, -rob

You've done a wonderful job here. Your idea was really excellent. The only thing I would have done different, was focusing. I'd prefer to have also the first ones in focus (if possible). Of course, this means, keeping DOF, which works great here. Congratulations again. Regards
