the capture is great but the watermark and the date are really distracting perhaps a digital watermark not visible on the image would do otherwise a great shot

I have to agree. Having the eye, which is supposed to be the main focus of the photo, in the deep shadow doesn't work well. This is one of those times with I hope you took a lot of photos of that wonderful beast and got others from a slightly different angle.

The main problem here is that the lighting is just too harsh. It almost looks like it was coming from straight above like it was noon. You titled the photograph "the eye" but because of the lighting the eye is in shadow while the top of the head is not. Shooting at a different time of day would have helped as high-noon light is rarely flattering. Also, I agree with Isadora, that you could have found a better angle. I would have gone with lower, either at eye-level with the elephant or lower with a pop of fill-flash to brighten the shadowed area.

You did a nice job getting so close to your subject which is something you don’t do as often in your other photos. However I think you needed to shoot from another angle to make this work. Maybe a little higher up? Maybe lower? A little more to the left? You could have filled the frame with the elephants face or moved back a bit – but the photo needs a little more view point. Also, I’m not sure it was a wise decision to cut out the elephant’s trunk.
