I read your profile. A retired physicist. Respect, sir.I, too, shoot things like fences and tree bark just to get texture shots for other uses, like backgrounds, PS brushes, and frames and such. Wonderful things you can do with abstracts like these. You might be a little too close for sharp focus here. If you change Mode in processing to LAB and use your preferred sharpening method on just the Lightness channel, your colors will pop out by themselves without sharpening...

Nice and sharp, but a bit glaring on his shell. Most people would want him facing you with a smile, but I've seen their mouths, and we don't need that, lol!Lots of light and shadow on his li'l slimy back. You can tape a piece of tissue over your flash to diffuse the harsh light, especially when getting so close. They sell diffusers for that purpose that just sit on the flash, but I figure, why spend the money when a tissue or tissue paper will do the trick. Keep after him,...

Oh, I dunno...I think the horses stretched out into a gallop conveys motion pretty well, guys, especially with manes flying and their hooves sunk into the grass and a bit blurred. We don't have to feel like they're screaming past us.I like this shot with all three riders distinct. The sharp focus lets us even read the horses' names, too. Where do you see that anywhere? There's a place for panned shots, I happen to like how you captured this. Sharp, colorful, and full of...

The flower is very beautiful and the colors in the entire photograph are beautiful.
I would suggest that you crop a bit from the bottom and top of the image, since the focus, in my opinion, should be on the flower.

I believe you're trying to portray the beginnings of the crop coming up in spring, but all your camera focussed on was the wire and post, leaving your plants all blurred and way distant. Perhaps the foreground is still awaiting planting, but there's nothing to look at except undefined shoots.Sorry, but this image seems confusing and lacks a central focus, IMO. Try different compositions, angles, and sunlight, and see if you can get the magic to happen while the crop is...

Object like this can look wery nice without HDR, of course, given you lit him with either reflectors, with bounced sunlight or with extra light sources souch as off-camera flashguns... Keep shooting.

He's a real sweetie! Nice blend of neutral colors, and good blurring of background, keeping some detail in his fur. Catchlights in his eyes make them stand out, that's where his personality is. I'd be happy to get a shot like this! Good work. Regards, Robin.

I love this moment, Michael! I agree it would make a better statement of comraderie if cropped vertically to include only the intimacy of the two characters. It looks like they're sharing strategy for the coming test. The moment belongs just to the two of them, but if you meant to include the context the crowd would add to that. Too bad the guy doesn't seem happy, like his horse just lost the race, but the horse looks "happy" with him, and he's the subject, after all. My...

Hello, Michael. This makes a very nice wall poster. Without the bush it could be either sand or snow - very unusual! Nice rough texture in the foreground, fading to fluidity of motion in the back and then framed by the farthest dunes..Also a good monochrome with just a pop of color in the middle. Very clean and sharp. A wonderful opportunity! Well done! Regards, Robin.

Some day I hope to take something this amazing. The photo is so well composed. The clear shot of the male bringing in the building material with his beautiful wings spread showing much detail in the feathers... while the female looks on in the well built nest. Wow..You have captured not only the technical parts well but also the bond of this pair with their nestbuilding activity all in perfect timing. Thank you for posting, Jo

I love this picture:the composition is very good, the guy on his bicycle makes dynamic an otherwise static scene; no modern objects contaminating an out-of-time scenario. I also like a lot all the shades of grey, from black to white. Very well done!

Dear Jan, The delicate "balance" is so very well composed with the extra bonus at the center part of the flower glowing from the background light. Clear and beautifull to see. Thank you for posting, Jo

cute little bugger, kinda mix match for sun shadows, but the setting almost looks natural, and you have the classic pose. so,, good post.

Nice pose, excellent eye make-up, very good mostly shadow-free (on the figure) lighting. I too find the back shadow a tad distracting but nothing major. i also think the model left back is a different shade than the model right, but again nothing major to fuss about. The dark spot on model right armpit could go away if you photoshop. Thanks
