Thanks to all who contributed ideas for assignments a few weeks ago. If you suggested a theme for assignments, expect to see your idea (in some form) over the next year or so. For now, thanks to olmosfamily/Enrique for this assignment. "The written word" is a common English phrase meaning a statement expressed in a durable form; not oral. As usual, Wikipedia tells us more than we are comfortable knowing about writing. Google directs us to consulting companies, specialists in rewriting speeches, blogs, nostrums (look it up!), etc. Here, it means a statement, however brief, that is rendered in language symbols on a relatively flat surface; pretty broad definition. To participate in this month's assignment, make a photo that has writing/printing (the written word in my broad definition) in it that is relevant to the overall photo. A photo of a newspaper will not do. A photo of an automobile dealer (sales agent) in the US which includes a newspaper with visible headline about cash for clunkers would do just fine, as well as be very topical and current. A photo with a man holding a sign which says "The end is near!" standing with an outdoor movie screen running film credits in view would be just fine. Now, think about it and get your own ideas! So, make a photo that shows The Written Word in a way that has relevance with the rest of the photo. And put the words "Written Word" in the photographer's comment . If you want to add anything, please do.
If you have any questions, email an admin. If your photo is deemed to not meet our assignment criteria and hence removed, please accept our decision graciously. Our decisions are not subjects for debate, so if you are not sure, ask first. To enter your photo into the assignment, just check off the box that says 2009 08 ~ The Written Word. You can view previous assignments here. You may submit as many photos as you like into the assignment. Good luck! This assignment will be enabled on August 1 and run through August 31. The photos displayed on the first pages of this section are the newest photos that have been submitted.
