The assignment for May is People at Work. Photograph
your subject in their work environment and in a way
that will require little or no written description for
the viewer to understand what type of work the subject
is doing. You can photograph barbers or beer vendors
at sports events or more challenging subjects like
insurance actuaries or book editors. Placing the
subject in their work environment will be the key. Portraying people at their work has been a popular theme throughout the history of art. August Sander's portraits are a well known early photographic study of people in their professions. Arnold Newman photographed celebrities in their work environment for Life magazine. Photographs that qualify for the assignment will show at least one person in a scene that will indicate to the viewer what it is that the person does as a profession or for a job. Some out of place photos invariably end up in the assignment folder, so if you must post a landscape for the assignment be sure to include a lumberjack or Forest ranger or something. The photos displayed on the first pages of this section are the newest photos that have been submitted.
