Since the beginning of the silent movies, motion picture studios have released film stills in advance of the opening of a movie. Although they may have been only one or two frames on the wall in the lobby of the theater, the stills could intrigue potential movie goers into breathless anticipation of their next cinematic adventure.

Fine Art Photographer Cindy Sherman did her own exploration with her Untitled Film Still Series .

For the assignment, show a frame that tells part of a story, whether with one person, as with Cindy Sherman or as large a cast as you can manage - Pets are possibilities as well.

A key to film stills is the implication of a continuation of the story. Staging or use of the environment is important.
