Prior to the implementation of the PhotoSIG Critique Standard, some photos received a high number of 3 Thumbs Up ratings, which added to a photo's score, regardless of the content of the critique. This led to an artificially high overall score, relative to what we see on PhotoSIG today.
The Critique Standard came into existence around May 2003, which went a long way to dispense with the "3TU, please see mine!" type of critiques. The older ratings are based on what would now be non-conforming critiques, and therefore have much higher numerical scores.
There is a category for the year of submission - so if you use that on your photos, or search using it, you will only see newer photos.
