Its back to simplicity for this month, the idea of finding shapes and making pictures. For August, plain geometry, pun intended, means look for a geometric shape in two dimensions, such as on a flat surface. Circles on road signs come to mind, as do rectangular shutters on buildings, but not hood ornaments on cars or pieces of sculpture.

So go find a geometric shape on a flat surface. If you use creative color or focus (or creative something else) to make a really interesting photo, so much the better. If yours is out of the ordinary, give us some description in your photographer's comment.

To qualify for this month's assignment,
  • Submit a photo of one or more geometric shapes on a flat surface
If you have a story to go with the photo that you want to share with us, put it in the comment area below the critiques.

If you have any questions, email an admin. If your photo is deemed to not meet our assignment criteria and hence removed, please accept our decision graciously. Our decisions are not subjects for debate, so if you are not sure, ask first. To include your entry in the assignment, just check off the box that says 2012 08 ~ Plain geometry. You can view previous assignments here. You may submit as many photos as you like into the assignment. Good luck!

This assignment will be enabled on August 1 and run through August 31.
