Is anyone else getting tired of the forced poses and the ridiculous props they are using when photographing babies and young children these days. Frankly I think a lot of the poses are just too risky for newborns. And the wardrobes - c'mon family portraits shouldn't be an ad for the Gap!

The other thing I have been thinking as I cruise through all these new baby photographers - isn't the miracle of a baby or child enough. Has no one heard of gilding the lily?

Not to mention the industry that has sprung up selling everything from newborn nests to swings to wings. Give me a break.

Hurumph :-)

Sheenawilkie it would be nice if you could show us how you would do the baby portraits using your own set up's with photographs to demonstrate. regards Don.

I'm not really sure how that applies to my commentary, but here are some of my kid photos grabbed out of my misc folder. Kids certainly aren't my specialty.

BTW people can have an opinion about just about anything without having actually done it. Otherwise, where would football be? :-)

Don what do you think about what I said in reference to posing and props with kid photography?

you have some beautiful portraits, and some that could be nicer had there been props to them. I for one dont see what you find so disturbing about the props that quite a lot of professional photog use, and as for not being safe I think there would be all the safety needed put into place and of course out of the lens angle not for our viewing.

Well of course it's personal taste. I just feel that the props have gotten out of hand, portraits should be about the subject not all the doodads, but that's just me :-)
