Something that was bothering me lately is a lack of critiques for my photos. Some of them have as much as 1000 views and yet no critiques are being posted? I'm not entirely sure what exactly happened on Photosig, but it's the main reason why I post much less and the sole reason why I didn't extend my premium membership. Now, I'm not a critique angel myself, but I'm trying to make it up at least. Any comments or thoughts as to why is it like that?

10 photos submitted this year and 9 critiques written. You call that "trying to make it up"? Seems more like your usual activity. I wouldn't bother taking any time writing a critique for you with that activity.

"I'm not a critique angel myself" -- I think you answered your own question. When people see that you have received more critiques than you have given they don't feel likely you'll pay it forward.

Here is the recipe to get lots of critiques on your photos. Write lots of critiques, not fluffy platitudes but meaningful stuff. Focus your critiques on those who also write critiques. You can find them here. These are people who are currently writing critiques.

Engage in discussions, either on the photo pages, by replying to your critics, or in the comment area, or here in the forums.

Make yourself known in the community. Critiques are not as prolific as they once were, people are being choosey about who they give them to. Make yourself someone people what to give their time to.

Cheers and good luck!

Thanks for the nice tip, will make sure to follow it up. If you look at my critiques I never give any fluffy flatteries :) I always try to write few sentences about both subject and technique.

You're quite right, you do write good critiques, and that's worth a lot around here. But do try to write more, and try to write critiques on people who are also active. I bet you will see a return on your investment!! Cheers :-)

I think you did a great job today of showing that you're not really interested in constructive, honest critiques. Perhaps you'll be better off trying flickr or facebook, where the number of critiques you receive is only limited by the speed at which your fawning friends can write them.

Views are mostly from drive-by surfers looking for naked flesh, which answers at least part of the question.

You seem to have no photos left now - so why draw attention? If you deleted them all, I for one won't be back to see what you post in future :-(

Robert sadly chose to remove his portfolio today as he doesn't feel any of his work warrants a -1 or -2.

Well, that is his loss I imagine. I'd rather see more honest feedback here, not less!

Now I am off to enjoy the long holiday here to celebrate QEII's diamond jubilee. Anyone who happens to be in Lyme can see my penguins at the Town Mill. Enjoy!

Ooooh! I love it when an admin sticks the boot in! ;-)
