What about scientific disagreement? Do we really think bugs see things like a camera sees things? And a camera doesn't always see things as we humans see things for that matter.

No, data is plural for datum... therefore: "data are disagreeing."

Especially in this case, where "data" now functions as both a count noun (hello plural verbs!) and a mass noun (always singular verbs), so both are accepted and it comes down to style and to the context of the sentence in which data (the word) is used.

pronunciation has changed too. Formerly, those hung up on pronunciation pronouced it as "day-ta". Now I'm hearing "dat - ah".
