With the newest Nikons (D800)(and most likely the other brands), the liveviews has been greatly improved. Finnally the light meter works, and I like the way the screen shows the actual exposure as you adjust, so, real time feedback of the look of the picture. Move the focus point around the screen, hit shutter, and picture taken.

So, with the mirror SLRs, we essentially now have a mirrorless mode that most likely works pretty much like a true mirrorless camera. less camera shake potential, etc.

except for perhaps a bit less size, I definitelty would not want to give up the mirror direct view the lens of the SLR. The brightness of the view, the more natural look, speed, etc

but, I suspect the major camera cameras will keep moving in this direction for reduction of complexity and manufacturing cost.

I just checked my D7000, and it does not display the light meter and show actual exposure (unless I have to set something), so, it looks like this feature might be brand new, works great and what LV should have always been able to do.

so, essentially, the newest SLRs LiveViews look to me essentially like the mirrorless new cameras.

it would be cool if Nikon would do a version update on the D7000 and add this feature, but typically, they don't add major function in. so,, I suspect the D7100 will get the improved LiveView.

so,, what % do people use LiveView versus Direct composition (thru the lens), I tend to be 95% thru the lens, due to a better image view still of the scene, plus, I think that in some ways the brain works better in the composition when the eyes is focused 100% in the composition in hand. but...

so,, wonder what other members split is between LV and direct.

100% mirror when on any SLR, 1/3 through eye piece and of that probably a growing 1/4 in the digital -with added functionality- mode when on X100, 100% screen when on G9.
