A few years ago, we had for an assignment "Men in Hats". This is more general, as it is not restricted to men, and headgear includes hats. I must admit, though, that the inspiration for this had to do with hats. With an American's casual interest in royalty and with confidence that something interesting is likely to happen at any wedding larger than a small town, I was struck by hats.
Consider, if you will, Princess Beatrice and a trooper of the guards in his bearskin. In the US, one of our ceremonial hats is within the financial means of almost everyone. Our recent addiction to headgear is a reversal of the damage done to the men's hat business done by John F. Kennedy, who was the first US president to go to his inauguration bare-headed.
The assignment this month is to make a photograph of at least one person wearing headgear. Could be a hat, could be a helmet, could be a large arrangement of fruit. You don't even have to go find one, you can make one. Just photograph a hat with occupant and, if appropriate, tell us about it.
If you have any questions, email an admin. If your photo is deemed to not meet our assignment criteria and hence removed, please accept our decision graciously. Our decisions are not subjects for debate, so if you are not sure, ask first. To include your entry in the assignment, just check off the box that says 2011 05 ~ People in headgear. You can view previous assignments here. You may submit as many photos as you like into the assignment. Good luck!
This assignment will be enabled on May 1 and run through May 31.
