I've posted before about our local volcano, Mt Sakurajima. Todays news showed just how active it has been this year. Over 400 "minor" explosive eruptions to date this year. I guess the "minor" part is that it is just large plumes of ash rather than lava and rocks. On a happier note, we are buying land 20km away (meaning we'll get less ash) and should be putting up a house within the next 6 or 8 months.

Congrats. Hope you'll still have a view. Interesting dilemma--danger and ash vs. prime view. Best of luck with your new home.

Not a view of the volcano. Too many mountains in Japan. We chose land at the bottom of the mountains to be closer to a train station. A few minutes drive up and we get a clear view of the top 2/3rds. Our view will be rice paddies and tea fields

Thanks. We still have a hoop or two to jump through first;)

Hehe. Just had a look at the webcam. Every one of "5 webcams on one page" page has ash on the protective cover.
