Noticed one person today with a bunch of posts on new images and a link to his most recent. I will say he is giving valid ratings to images and not just 3's all the time... I thought the qualifier hollowed any spam comments? Dave

You answered your own question...."I will say he is giving valid ratings to images and not just 3's all the time... "
Just because a person provides link to their works doesn't make it spam. I never really understand why people bother to do that though....if I click your name I got to your portfolios.

I was under the impression that links would create hollow. Especially if you do 10 with the same MO. Guess not. He got lots of comments.
Might be the way to get lots of feedback. Correction. He gave all images 3's except 1 which he gave a 2. None were hollow...

Dave if you have a concern about someone abusing the system email an admin the info and a link. With regards to HTML links within a critique, including a link is not contrary to the TOS or cause for not meeting the critique standard. Thanks.

Sheena, no, not at all. I was just surprised to see it that's all. It is the very thing that I thought caused V2 to happen, that's all. I was surprised to see 10 Crits in a row with 3 TU and a spam link. I really don't care and am not typing this in anger. It was just a question that's all... Dave

Hey Dave, I didn't think you were angry =) I think the issues around V1 had more to do with meaningless words spread over many photos than links to photos. Cheers!

Good point and in retrospect that was most of it. Thanks. Too much crazyness as a teen. No memory left... LOL...
Thanks again Sheena... Dave

I think your question has been answered with by the others. I think the best way to thwart spam is to ignore it. Most spam no matter how good the critique is... I usually do not mark it useful and I DON'T visit the images spammed. Cause no matter how good th critique is... Once there is spam on my image I am left with the feeling that there was an alterior motive for leaving the critique. This usually works on my images. Cause I really don't have the people that write it leave any more on my shots. They know its a waste of time. Usually spammers will seek out the ones that are know return critiquers. Return critiers are a great thing for this site but I think spammers take advantage of them.

Oh no, someone left a link. I think the world is going to end. I'm not sure if my eyes can handle a two or three word link. It's just too much for me to handle. Damn these people that really want other photosiggers opinions on a particular shot. How dare they do this.
Give me a break people. Unless they are leaving a paragraph long link it's really not a big deal. So many of you act like the person murdered someone for crying out loud. The word spam has been so overused on this site. I find it rather sad. Posting several of the same messages in the forums or privately emailing psiggers is spam. A short 'See Mine' link at the end of a useful critique is not.

"Oh No!!! " He looks and gasps as his beady eyes glimmer in the light from the monitor. One hand covers his mouth in horror as the other hand trembles and shakes as it points, "There, There! You see!!! There is a link already as the critiquers name!"

if you belong to a regular photo club in your local area and take your image to be critiqued by the members in person there is no place for "your's is good but see mine" then holding up your image. childish. this site has been set up to hear from photographers world wide concerning feedback on images posted. there is no need to post a "see mine". the posts to this site are to gather impressions from visual people throughout the world.

At a photo club I would not think it is childish to offer my genuine opinion of someone's photo and then pulling out my photo and saying what do you guys think about this one. Isn't that the purpose of photo clubs? If I were to call a bunch of the members of the photo club or mail them my photos to their home persistantly, that would be childish (and considered spam). At a photo club, someone could decide to ask to see my work (like they can click my name to see my work here) but there would be nothing wrong in asking someone to take a look at a photo. Seriously think about it.
I do agree that to just say "Nice one, look at mine" is pretty much worthless and rude but to write a detailed and thoughtful critique and then add see mine is not rude at all. If anything it shows that the photographer asking for the critique is eager to learn which is what I thought this site was all about.

the clubs in my area have formal critiques and you speak to the photo at hand ONLY . there is a relaxed atmosphere in the begining of each meeting where you can share photos and discussion. i have always respected photosig as a formal critique site where you speak to the image posted with respect. "see mine" seems to be disrespectful even after a really great critique. sorry

Thank you Robert, I'm glad I'm not the only one fed about the "spam" complainers. I just took a look at your shot. That's an awesome lightning shot you captured. I wish more people would see the distinction between spam and a 'See Mine' comment.

I just personaly see no use for it. I make a point to click every name that clicks one of my images and critiques it. I like to see where the critiques are coming from. So like I said earlier... I just get that feeling there is an alternate motive for leaving the critique when I see that see mine or that link. hHave faith photo brothers and sisters, myself and many others will and do visit after leaving just crits only.

wasn't usefilm the site that restricted people to 23 crit's a day? i remember reading it in their forums, as both photopoints and usefilm complained about the plague that we had in v1.

Emanuel instead of going off on a tangent read the post. I asked a question. I wasn't complaining about it, it was a question. As I said to Sheena, I don't care, I just wanted to know... Calm down...

My post was not targeted directly to you at all. It was a response to the general feeling out there that people have against placing a link.
