Blog Entry 1: Beginner Photographer on South West tripRich K. is a keen photographer and many of you will have seen the lovely firework shots he posts here. Rich was very keen to come on the latest photoSIG trip to the USA South West and I jumped at the chance to come along as long as I had some reasonable photgraphy kit to use. So armed with the backup camera and spare lenses I came to the USA for the first time. I've only used simple cameras before this so be gentle.... Saturday Red Rock Crossing - my best shot of the reflection pool, and Rich being asked to take someone's photo (psst he's on holiday) (two pics here)Sunday Oak Creek Canyon and Slide Rock State Park Monday travel to Grand Canyon, went for meal with Tim and Dawn and Rich had Rattlesnake whilst I settled for Chicken.
Blog Entry 2: Grand CanyonThe PhotoSIG group stayed one night at the Grand Canyon but we stayed on an extra day to go to more points and have more dawns and sunsets. The last day at Moran Point, a lady came across to speak to us having heard our English accents. It tured out she was from the next village along from where Richard's family live in Devon. A small world indeed! Here are some of my photos from Grand Canyon. Blog Entry 3: Wupatki and Sunset CraterOn Wednesday we left Grand Canyon and detoured via a little road to the Wupatki National Monument. Then onto take a shot of the Sunset Crater Volcano before heading back to Sedona. Blog Entry 4: Meteor CraterOn Thursday we took a trip out to meteor crater. I love the visitor's centre with all its cool science stuff, like being a kid again. The crater is huge, almost too big to get your head around. And pretty hard to take photos of. I saw a cute lizard type animal, any ideas what it is? Blog Entry 5: Horse Shoe BendOn Friday we relocated from Sedona to Moab with a detour past Horse Shoe Bend. We are not great hikers and found the walk quite tough but the view was great. I saw some desert flowers. And I must say that standing on the edge overlooking Horse Shoe Bend is the most scared I have been for a long long time. Definitely worth the detour! However we don't recommend hiking it between 12 and 1 in the blazing sun as we did. Blog Entry 6: Glen Canyon Dam and Monument ValleyAfter stopping at Horseshoe Bend Overlook we drove into Page for lunch and went on for a quick look at Glen Canyon Dam, then on through Kayenta into Monument Valley and on past Canyonlands up to Moab. Blog Entry 7: Moab Car ShowWe arrived in Moab, Utah Friday evening and set out on Saturday morning to see the cars at the Moab Car Show. I think shots of whole cars can be kind of boring, so here are a few little details, and a self portrait as well. Blog Entry 8: Arches at dawn and Dead Horse PointSunday, and dawn saw us at Turret Arch and the Windows at Arches National Park. We later went on to Dead Horse Point where we had our picnic lunch. |
